Special Education (DLC) Paraprofessional

Job Description 

Qualifications: Special Education (DLC) Paraprofessionals will hold a High School Diploma or GED.

 

Length of Contract and Hours: A Special Education (DLC)  Paraprofessional will work approximately 177 Days per calendar year and up to 37.5 hours per week.

 

Immediate Supervisor: A Special Education (DLC)  Paraprofessional will report directly to the Building Principal.

 

General Job Description: The Special Education  (DLC)  Paraprofessional works under the direction and supervision of a teacher or other designated member of the school staff.  The special education paraprofessional helps special education students acquire skills and competencies taught by the classroom teacher.  Duties include supervising and working with students both one on one and in small groups when needed, assisting the teacher in the lunchroom, and with toileting, transportation, and recreational activities in all areas of the building  

 

Specific Job Functions:  

 

  1. Support teachers in meeting the instructional, educational, behavioral, and social emotional needs of students with disabilities in the classroom.
  2. Provide small group and /or individualized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with the students’ IEP and the supervising teachers’ lesson plans.
  3. Collect Instructional and behavioral data for all objectives being taught for each student.
  4. Implements Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities.
  5. Assist during standardized testing to support state and local testing processes and policies.
  6. Assist with preparation of daily lesson plan materials and make copies of material for students.
  7. Monitor students’ movement throughout the building to other classrooms, learning areas, and cafeteria.
  8. Assists students with assistive technology devices, including communication devices, switches, and orthopedic devices needed for sitting, walking, or standing.
  9. Must possess excellent teamwork skills and the ability to remain calm and patient at all times.
  10. Perform personal care and hygiene tasks for special education students, including assisting students with feeding, toileting, lifting, and mobility. 
  11. Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
  12. All other duties as assigned.
